Tsukuba is a city located in Ibaraki Prefecture, in the northern Kanto region in Japan. It is also known as a "Science City" because 2 national universities and around 60 research institution have been developed here. Among the most prominent institutions are the University of Tsukuba and High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK). The city was closely modeled on other planned cities and science development such as Brasilia, Bethesda, and Palo Alto.
